Experience

Teaching experience is taken into account

  • in determining your category of registration
  • in considering a standards-based pathway option.

Determination of registration category

Most applicants who meet all eligibility requirements will be granted provisional registration.

If you have the required teaching experience you may be considered for full registration.

Acceptable experience is at least one year (200 days) of teaching in recognised schools in the past five years in:

  • Australia or New Zealand; or
  • another country delivering the Australian national curriculum developed and administered by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) or a syllabus developed, revised or purchased for a senior subject or P-10 subject by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).

You will need to:

  • provide confirmation of your teaching experience; and
  • demonstrate that you meet the professional standards for full registration by providing a report completed by a school principal.

The relevant report form will be provided during completion of the online application for registration form.

Further information is available in the QCT policy – Experience requirements for full registration as a teacher on application.

Standards-based pathway

If you have teaching experience but do not have the qualifications required for registration you may be able to apply for registration under a standards-based pathway.

Information is available in Applicants without prescribed qualifications.
