Dr Steve Griffiths’ exemplary teaching extends well beyond the classroom to YouTube, where he has amassed a following for his high-quality educational videos.
With a Master’s degree focusing on supporting Early Career Teachers and a PhD exploring the effects of video-based instruction on student outcomes, Steve’s groundbreaking research has led him to conduct numerous professional development sessions and workshops, both locally and nationally, demonstrating innovative ways to incorporate video learning into classrooms.
A significant aspect of his influence is his YouTube channel, which features 400 videos and has 6,450 subscribers – and more than 1.9 million views. His instructional content supports science education for Years 8-10 and senior Biology students not only at Cavendish Road State High School but in classrooms globally.
A Highly Accomplished teacher, he has been hailed for his extraordinary impact on Queensland education. He provides study skills workshops for senior students and actively supports 130 colleagues by delivering targeted professional development.
Steve was instrumental in founding the Academy of Ideas – an extension program that includes innovative workshops such as Aviation, where students design and build drones, learn about aerodynamics, and engage with aviation professionals.
He has also coordinated his school’s recycling program, leading a student team to collect and process recyclables, raising over $2,000 and significantly reducing carbon emissions. His efforts extend to fostering a love for STEM through collaborations with Robogals, Women in Engineering, and creating a Maker Space for hands-on Inquiry-based learning.
In his nomination, colleagues credited Steve for his relentless commitment to inspire and elevate the educational experience for students and colleagues alike.
