Roslyn (Ros) Curtis AM has left an indelible mark on St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School in her nearly 14 years as Principal.
Under her leadership, enrolments have soared by 78 per cent, achieved by refining teaching methods, attracting top-notch staff, and fostering community cohesion. This unity bolstered the school’s reputation and, in turn, its enrolment figures, enabling significant investments in facilities and fundraising.
Ros’s tenure saw the creation of vibrant green spaces from once barren areas, the opening of a $20 million sports precinct, a state-of-the-art lecture theatre, and an expanded staff room. A new cafeteria-style tuckshop is under construction, and plans are underway for a performing arts centre within three years. These upgrades have enriched the educational environment and improved life at St Margaret’s, including for boarders.
A fervent advocate for staff development, Ros oversees a generous professional development budget. Through the St Margaret’s Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence, the school offers various programs for both internal and external educators. Initiatives like the Aspiring Senior Leaders Program and Managing Your Career Conference equip teachers with leadership skills and career strategies. The school’s emphasis on professional growth is further reflected in its successful nomination of staff for awards, enhancing their career prospects.
Ros is the recipient of numerous accolades including a Most Influential Educator award, and in 2024, she was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant services to education and professional associations. Under her guidance, St Margaret’s has earned four Five Star Employer of Choice Awards. The school’s commitment to reconciliation was also recognised with the Queensland Reconciliation Award, celebrating its impact on First Nations students.
Annual staff surveys reflect high satisfaction and well-being, with St Margaret’s exceeding benchmarks. Ros’s strategic planning and transparency have solidified trust with the school community, driving successful fundraising efforts and aligning stakeholders with the school’s vision.
