An experience tutoring a sick friend in high school set Danielle Alympic on the path to teaching, a decision the Kelvin Grove State College (KGSC) community are very thankful for.
Danielle wasted no time making an impact both in the classroom and beyond. In Food Studies, she led the introduction of the ‘Masterchef Mystery Box Challenge’, in which students work with a specified ingredient with faculty members serving as guest judges. Over 300 students have taken part in the challenge, engaging them with hospitality beyond assessment.
As a Student Representative Coordinator, Danielle has facilitated student participation in interschool forums and initiatives such as Amnesty International workshops, the Queensland Global Youth Summit, and various charitable fundraising efforts.
While studying, Danielle took an opportunity to work as a tutor at KGSC, giving her a head start on familiarising herself with the school’s environment and learners.
In her second year Danielle undertook the role of leading 18 colleagues as Year 9 English Team Leader, both ensuring the delivery of high-quality classroom content, and supporting first year teachers to gain confidence with the curriculum and practices.
An early career teacher herself, Danielle is also a beginner teacher mentor – actively collaborating with colleagues to develop teaching strategies to showcase in college-wide professional development sessions. Through KGSC’s Teacher Enhancement Centre program, she also helps support preservice teachers interested in pursuing teaching in rural, regional, and remote schools.
