Alfio Balsamo's leadership in vocational education has transformed opportunities for students across Queensland. As Principal of Pathways at Woodcrest State College and WesTEC CEO, Alfio led the creation and expansion of the WesTEC Technical Trade and Pathways Centre - a regional hub that now supports over 900 students from 20 schools. His innovative governance model unites eight partner schools under a shared board of principals, fostering collaboration and ensuring sustainable funding for the centre's programs.
Under Alfio's guidance, WesTEC offers 28 nationally recognised programs - from Certificate II to Diploma - tailored to meet workforce demands, achieving a 90 per cent course completion rate and a 100 per cent apprenticeship offer rate for TEC heavy vehicle automotive students in 2024. His strong partnerships with industry and training providers have positioned WesTEC as a trusted provider of high-quality vocational education, with endorsements for providing global best practice from major organisations such as Cummins International.
Alfio's commitment to aligning education with employment trends has reshaped perceptions of vocational training, providing students with meaningful pathways to success. His work has elevated outcomes for students and made a lasting impact on vocational education in Queensland.
