Excellence in Beginning to Teach

Rueben Davis

Loganlea State High School's Rueben Davis has been recognised for his outstanding cultural engagement contributions. Since becoming a registered teacher in late 2024, Rueben has made a significant impact on his school community, particularly in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

A proud First Nations man, Rueben is also the school's First Nations Co-ordinator. He is strengthening connections with external organisations, such as Gunya Meta, to provide mentoring and cultural awareness programs. His leadership has seen the creation of a bush tucker garden, a cultural performance dance group, and a dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural care group, which has already increased student attendance by 6 per cent in just 12 months. Rueben also led the development of a Reconciliation Action Plan and delivers professional development sessions to staff, embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across the curriculum.

Rueben's dedication extends beyond the classroom. He has presented at Logan's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Summit and was honoured with the South East Region NAIDOC Educator Award. With a strong family background in education and a passion for fostering cultural pride, Rueben is a respected role model for students and colleagues alike.
