Excellence in Teaching

Georgia Horewood

Georgia Horewood, a dedicated educator at Pimlico State High School, has been recognised for encouraging her students to think like responsible global citizens. Over her nearly decade-long tenure, Georgia has transformed classrooms into spaces of intellectual curiosity and cultural awareness, fostering critical thinking and global competency among her students.

As Pimlico's Global Coordinator, Georgia has led and designed creative assessments that challenge and engage students. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, mentoring early career teachers and pre-service educators in curriculum design and inquiry-based pedagogy.

Georgia's commitment to global education is evident in her coordination of programs like the Decarbonise Initiative, where students presented at the UN COP28 Climate Change Conference, and the Youth to Action - Vanuatu project, which empowered students to address local challenges through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Her work also includes embedding First Nations perspectives into the curriculum and fostering intercultural understanding through international partnerships with schools in China, Korea, and the Pacific.
