For over thirty years at Indooroopilly State High School, Deirdre Hall has championed inclusivity and holistic wellbeing to help shape the local educational community.

Her work with Junior Secondary students (Years 7-9) showcases her visionary approach. Deirdre has an empathetic and flexible pedagogy that transforms classrooms into safe havens of engagement and positivity. As a mentor to Junior Deputy Principals and Heads of Year, her support fosters a culture of compassionate leadership and seamless transitions for students entering high school.

One of her standout achievements is the introduction of therapy dogs, based on research from the University of Queensland. This initiative has significantly boosted student engagement and created a more conducive learning environment. It reflects Deirdre's innovative spirit and commitment to enhancing educational experiences.

Deirdre's influence extends to advocating for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Her leadership has propelled Indooroopilly to the forefront, with the highest enrolment of deaf students in Queensland. Through tailored support systems and strategic advocacy, she has dismantled learning barriers, ensuring every student can thrive.

Beyond the classroom, Deirdre’s active role in the Parents & Citizens’ Association and support for extracurricular activities highlight her dedication to a vibrant school culture. Her contributions go beyond Indooroopilly, enriching the broader educational landscape through her involvement in professional groups like the Business Educators’ Association.
