Terms and Conditions

  1. Eligibility

    1. The Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) Photo Competition 2017 is open between Monday 7 August and Friday 15 September 2017.
    2. All students (from Prep to Year 12) and all staff in Queensland schools are eligible to enter, except where this contravenes point 1.3 below.
    3. QCT employees and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
    4. Each entry must identify both the photographer and a school nominator.
    5. Entries are to be nominated by a Queensland school principal or their delegate.
    6. The photographer, or parent/guardian of the photographer if the photographer is under 18 years of age, must provide consent for the image to be used.
    7. The school identified by the nominator is eligible for the school prize.
    8. The photographer identified by the nominator is eligible for the photographer prize.
    9. Only one photograph is allowed per entry.
    10. There is no limit to the number of entries a nominator can endorse or the number of entries a photographer can submit.
    11. For a photograph to be eligible it must:
      1. be taken in a Queensland school environment
      2. have been taken on or after 1 January 2017
      3. be submitted in JPG, PNG or GIF format
      4. be at least 8 megapixels (or equivalent) – suitable for print reproduction
      5. be the original work for the competition and must not have been or be entered in any other competition or exhibition
      6. be named: photographer-name_title-of-work (e.g. John-Smith_my-classroom-teacher) and be dated.
    12. The image may be post-processed through software (e.g. Photoshop and similar).
    13. A brief statement of up to 50 words is mandatory to describe the submitted image.
    14. The image cannot be the result of a professional engagement – the image is ineligible if any party receives a benefit for the production of the image.
    15. At the time the image is submitted, the principal must hold the written, signed and dated permission of any person appearing in the image for use of the image by the QCT. The principal must be able to produce evidence of this permission from any person in the image if requested by the QCT.
  2. How to Enter

    1. An online entry form must be completed by a Queensland principal or their delegate and submitted digitally using the online form provided at www.qct.edu.au/photocompetition.
    2. Only one image may be submitted with each entry and must be uploaded at the time the entry form is submitted.
    3. Entries must be submitted online by 5:00 pm (AEST) Friday 15 September 2017. Late entries will not be accepted.
    4. Entries will be acknowledged by email to the provided email addresses of both the photographer and the school.
    5. Only digital files submitted with the online form will be accepted as eligible entries.
    6. By submitting an entry, both the photographer and the principal agree to be bound by the terms and conditions outlined in this document.
  3. Judging and Prizes

    1. All entries will be judged by a panel appointed by the Director of the QCT. The panel will consider elements of creativity, aesthetics and originality.
    2. Every entry that meets the competition requirements will be considered for judging.
    3. Entries with information that is offensive or unfairly discriminates against an individual or a group of people are not eligible.
    4. Contact information provided may be used for administration and media purposes.
    5. Prizes are listed on the QCT website and are detailed below. There are three major prizes for both the schools and the photographers.

    7. School prize money is to be used for the purpose of providing professional development of the educational staff at the school.
    8. Finalists will be notified and announced on the QCT’s website on Friday 29 September 2017.
    9. Winners will be notified by phone or email by Monday 6 November 2017.
    10. The winners will be announced on the QCT website and on social media on Monday 6 November 2017.
    11. The judges’ decisions will be deemed final and appeals will not be considered.
  4. Exhibition and Usage

    1. An online gallery will display a changing selection of images submitted as entries to the competition.
    2. Images entered may be used by the QCT for any purpose associated with the QCT’s functions and purpose.
  5. Copyright and Moral Rights

    1. A consent form must be signed by the photographer or a parent/guardian if the photographer is under 18 years of age when the entry is submitted.
    2. Upon submission of an entry to the Queensland College of Teachers photographic competition 2017, the photographer, as the owner of the image, grants the QCT the right to:
      1. maintain a copy of the image for archival purposes;
      2. enlarge and adapt the image in order to fit a large-scale format;
      3. publish the image on the QCT’s website and social media platforms;
      4. use the image for promotional and publicity purposes relating to promoting the teaching profession;
      5. display the image in public spaces; and
      6. reproduce and/or exhibit the image
      7. replicate the image in any media, known or yet to be developed.
    3. This consent is perpetual, non-exclusive, transferrable and royalty-free.

    4. Information received in an entry may be published on the QCTs website and/or in external publications.
    5. The photographer warrants that he/she is the owner of all copyright of the image or has obtained all necessary approvals to permit the submission of the image to the competition.
    6. While the photographer retains copyright of the image, he/she grants permission for the image to be used in accordance with clause 5.2 and the Consent Form.
    7. While the QCT will take care to ensure the quality and integrity of the reproduced image, the photographer acknowledges that enlargements and slight variations to the image may result from adapting the original image to the large-scale format required for exhibition presentation.
    8. Any inadvertent failure of the QCT, or failure of a third party, to accord proper attribution shall not entitle the photographer or school to withdraw consent and approvals given in these terms and conditions.
  6. Force Majeure

    If for any reason the competition is not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the QCT, which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition), the QCT reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. The QCT  reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, the voting process, which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition.

  7. General Conditions

    1. The QCT reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the competition and/or the judging process at any time without notice or further recourse to the photographers or schools.
    2. This competition is run in partnership with Teachers Mutual Bank which has sponsored the QCT with $10,000 of the prize money.
    3. Queensland College of Teachers photographic competition 2017 is presented and promoted by the QCT. The QCT’s office is located at Level 5, 601 Coronation Drive, Toowong Qld 4066.
  8. Privacy

    1. Purpose
    2. The QCT is using the online competition form located at www.qct.edu.au/photocompetition to seek electronic entries to the Queensland College of Teachers photographic competition 2017. The personal information provided in this submission form will be protected in accordance with our obligations under the Information Privacy Act 2009.

      The QCT reserves the right to contact any party to the entry including the photographer (or legal guardian where the photographer is under the age of 18) or nominator.

    3. Privacy Statement
    4. The Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 authorises the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) to collect and use personal information for the purpose of carrying out its statutory obligations and functions which includes promoting the teaching profession.  In carrying out its functions the QCT will give some personal information to other parties including service providers engaged by the QCT.  A de-identified or aggregate form of data may be released on an open data website.  Further details about the QCT’s Privacy Statement and collection of personal information may be found on the QCT’s website www.qct.edu.au.  Entrant details and photographs will be stored securely.  The QCT will only disclose entrant details and photographs in accordance with the Photographer Consent Form and Terms and Conditions except where authorised or required by law.
